San Andres
The Archipelago of San Andres is located North-East from Colombia, on the Caribbean Sea. It is conformed of the islands of San Andres, Providencia, Santa Catalina and some surrounding cays. The Island of San Andres has an extension of 45 Km2. Because of its ecosystem, bio diversity and beautiful landscapes, the Archipelago is protected as a Biosphere Reserve by the UNESCO en 2001 with the name of "Seaflower".


The history of San Andres and Providencia dates to the year 1510 when spanish ships discovered the Island when traveling from Jamaica to the Miskitos. Some historians relate the discovery to the second trip of Columbus.
Others assure that its discovery was around 1629 when some English puritans arrive to the Island and organized a route for slave trading. After the XVII century it was conquered by the Spanish.


For a long time the island was the subject for dispute between the English, Dutch, Spanish and French. During these times the pirate Henry Morgan uses the island to hide his treasures, and there is a legend of a hidden treasure with no Map in the island of Santa Catalina.
